Toddler scarred after dog attack Added: (2012-04-26 11:28:01)

  • An angry dad has spoken out after his one-year-old daughter was bitten in the face by a ‘friendly’ dog.

Alex Parker, 36, from Harper’s Lane in Chorley, geared himself up to take little Lulu to the park to play on the swings.

Alex, who was attacked last year and is off work suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, rarely leaves the house.

But he decided to treat his toddler to a day out at the Erskine recreation ground last week, and was horrified when she was left scarred after a dog attacked her.

He said: “I let Lulu walk on the grass because we only have a yard at home, and the little Jack Russell came over.

“I asked the owner if it was friendly and safe, and she said it was just giddy and playful, and it seemed trained.

“But Lulu took a tumble and fell backwards on her bum, and as soon as that happened, the dog leaped towards her and snapped.

“She started screaming her head off, and when I picked her up, there was a wound in her cheek which opened like an eye.

“There was a pool of blood, and I actually thought she’d lost her eye.”

Lulu, who only turned one in February, was taken to Chorley hospital straight after the incident, which happened at around 2.20pm on April 16.

Now, Alex fears she’s been left with a scar, and is furious that the dog has not been ordered to be put down.

The police and Chorley Council’s dog warden are still looking into the incident, but said that in some circumstances, dog’s are not always ordered to be destroyed.

“I just think that’s terrible,” Alex said. “If it attacks another child, the parent will want to know why it was allowed to happen twice.

“I have a dog myself; it’s a Staffordshire Bull Terrier which is ironic, because they are actually classed as dangerous dogs, whereas Jack Russell’s aren’t.

“But if Bernie (the dog) bit someone, whether it was a child or a postman, I would have him put down.”

Now, Alex says Lulu isn’t sleeping well, and is not her normal ‘bubbly’ self.

“My wife Katie is extremely upset,” he said. “Lulu is so bonny, and it looks like she’s going to be scarred for life, which is awful for a little girl.

“She’s not even two yet, and this has happened to her.”
