SPRING HILL --
A man walking his two German Shepherd dogs and two deputies were injured by an aggressive pit bull, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office said.
The incident occurred about 7:30 a.m. Saturday in the roadway on the 4200 block of Copperhill Drive in Spring Hill.
Resident Robert Occhiogrosso said he was walking his dogs when the pit bull approached and attacked. Two deputies who tried to contain the put bull sustained scrapes and abrasions from the dog kicking around. Animal Control was called and took possession of the dog.
Occhiogrosso and his dogs sustained minor cuts, deputies said.
According to deputies, the owner of the pit bull, Garfield Howell, said he didn't know the dog had escaped his fenced yard. A deputy went to the residence and found the fence had been pried back and a metal-type barrier designed to prevent the dog from digging hadn't worked.
The pit bull had expired vaccinations and no registration or certificate, deputies said.
